“The Gila and The Salt” traces 2,000 years of water and River People history in the Southwest—from Toltec trade routes and early O’Odham life to Yaqui refugees who rebuilt ancient canals. A Mormon descendant recounts his family’s quest to tame the Salt River. The stories culminate with an elder’s hopeful call to protect water and heal past harms to the land and its people.
